Phase 1: Camping

A campground by Lake Calima

Opens early 2028. In the meantime, we will let you know when it opens.

What it is

Tents near the water, on a family estate

The first step of the project

The project’s first phase is a 4,000 m² campground on the strip of the estate that faces the lake. It will have 10 to 15 wooden platforms near the water to pitch your tent on.

At the entrance there will be a reception kiosk with tables and a place to charge your phone, plus parking by the road. There will be washrooms with showers and a central stone fire pit with benches for the evening.

The plan includes three ways to stay: in your own tent, in a tent that is already set up and furnished, or in a large bell tent. The details will be confirmed before opening.

Progress

What is ready and what is still to come

Ready: the land is already fenced on the road side and the lake side, and cleared where the tents and common areas will go.

Still to come: the power connection with Celsia, water, washrooms, the reception and the national tourism registration (Registro Nacional de Turismo), which Colombia requires before a place can take guests. In January 2025 the family asked the CVC, the regional environmental authority, for its review of the campground’s wastewater system.

The goal is to open in early 2028. If the date changes, we will say so here and by email to everyone on the list.

How it could look

Where

Between the road and the lake

The campground sits on the strip of Berlín II that runs from the road down to the shore, on the north side of Lake Calima, about 5 kilometers from the town of Darién.

The shore has rules: below the 1,410 m line the land belongs to Celsia, the company that runs the reservoir, and in the 30 meters above it only tents and structures that can be taken down are allowed. Permanent buildings go farther up.

From Cali it is about 100 kilometers, 2 to 2.5 hours by car or bus.

What to expect

Still mornings, windy afternoons

On the estate, temperatures run from about 18 to 24 °C year-round. Mornings tend to be still, with a glassy lake and a bit of mist.

Most afternoons, from noon to 7 p.m., a west wind comes in. If you bring your own tent, make sure it can handle wind. Rainy days tend to be calm, and October is one of the wettest months.

Nights are cooler than the days: bring something warm and something for the rain.

Frequently asked questions

When does the campground open?

The goal is to open in early 2028. Utilities, washrooms and the national tourism registration are still to come. If you sign up, we will tell you when there is a date.

Can I book now?

No. There are no bookings or rates yet. Sign up for the news and we will tell you when it opens. Signing up is not a booking.

Can I bring my own tent?

That is part of the plan: platforms to pitch your own tent. There would also be tents already set up. The details will be confirmed before opening.

Will there be washrooms and power?

The plan includes washrooms with showers, a power connection with Celsia and water. That is exactly what is still to be done, which is why the campground is not open yet.

Can I make a campfire?

Not on the ground. The plan includes a central stone fire pit with benches for the evening.

Can I swim in the lake?

Lake Calima is a reservoir, and Celsia, the company that runs it, marks areas where swimming is not allowed because of the risk of drowning. We do not promise any swimming areas.

Will there be kite and windsurf?

A kite and windsurf school with a floating pier is part of Phase 2: The Lakefront, which is in design and subject to permits. The campground opens first.
